The events can either occurs at stations or on the track. A bubble with icons and an exclamation mark will show up to prompt player an incident has occur. If an event occur on a map area outside of the screen, an indicator will occur at the side of the screen to prompt the player. If the player allows notification to be sent, even when the player is not in the game, SimTrain will send players badges and banners for the incidents in the game to increase the player retention rate.

The period of time between the occurrence of the events are random, with the only guarantee being there will always be at least one event occur within the first minute every time the player opens up the game. The randomness is to simulate the uncertainty of operating MTA in real life. The first minute occurrence guarantee gives the player something to do to encourage them stays on the game.

To solve an events:

  1. The player click on the text bubble to investigate the details of the event.
  2. The player is given a description of the event, some iconic imagery, and also an option to “Solve” with the corresponding cost, or “Ignore”.
    1. The cost to solve will usually be money, but also could be other resources, for example temporary suspension of station and/or tracks (which may leads to decrease in income and satisfaction), land area around the station, etc.
  3. After the player pick a choice, they are given the outcome of the choice.
    1. The result of the events will largely be based on the player’s choice, but a randomness factor will be involved. Some seemingly good choice might end up sabotaging the player’s resources. The randomness is to simulate the uncertainty of MTA operation in real life and the difficulty in determining the situations.
    2. The player will always gain Exp. by not “Ignore” an event. “Ignore” event would not decrease the player’s Exp., but will effect their citizen satisfaction level. For the detailed number, refer to Stats.

Events is an important part for us to prompt the riders to understand the hardship of MTA staff. By presenting the complicate scenarios that MTA faces on a day to day basis, we hope the player will be able to sympathize with the staff and stop being the one who creates those “incidents”/
