One of the player’s main actions in SimTrain is construction. Simply put, the player builds train stations and the tracks between them on a given NYC map.
The construction will be grid based to give the player some limitation. Train stations can only be placed on the lattices, and the train lines can only be build along the grid lines. The limitation is there to avoid the map from getting too overwhelming in later games, and also so that the players can navigate a simplistic map. A chess board number/letter system will be used here to help the player easily locate where they are, and also find out where they placed certain stations or tracks.
Construction is a critical way we hope to demystify the MTA to the riders. Seeing how the train systems come together, we hope the players will be able to see the train map as a considerate layout of a city plan, instead of an incomprehensive spider web of information. By experiencing the difficulty of building a train system themselves, the player will be able to understand how much though the MTA has put into planning out the MTA train system.
